turn the phrase

When it comes to music, I am one of those people that will listen to a record over and over until - well, until I just don't.
Right now, that record is METALS by Feist.

At first, I was like, "What the hell are you mumbling about, Feist?" I was somewhat unhappy that her new songs seemed so unhappy. I mean, her first couple of records were so whimsical and droll that I expected something similar from METALS.
But after a few listens, I was more like, "Oh, geez, how could I have been so short-sighted?"

She has been touring with Mountain Man as backing vocalists, who to me, are like the modern equivalent of The Roches - not that The Roches aren't still alive and kicking. The sound simply appealed to me in a similar way. All those crazy fucking harmonies that remind you the human voice is usually the most interesting instrument.

And that's the thing about METALS. It's the way in which it is layered and all of the various components come together - like a beautiful, disconsolate, sonic lasagna.
