the view from there: 1

Sometimes I cannot remember things I did yesterday. Or, let's face it, twenty minutes ago. But there are many moments from my childhood that are beyond vivid - like neon, technicolor against the gray matter. The time I have spent in Wisconsin, particularly at my grandparents' home makes up a large portion of those memories. Time does funny things to memory and though I always look forward to returning to the motherland, my more recent visits have worked to dull my fond feelings and associations. I am happy to say, however, that I only become more appreciative each time I get to be in the place that holds my dear, extended family (and Friday night fish fries and cheese curds and The House on the Rock).
